Lemony and My Story of Unfortunate Events

Hello, my name is Lemony. I’m 4 months old, and I am a very cute and strong Love Bird. My name was taken from the book and movie, The Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket because my life started with a series of unfortunate events, and because my color is like my daddy’s, greenish and yellowish mixed.

The rough start I had in my life made me the way I am now, cute and strong. It all started early one morning about 4 months ago: My owner came as usual to feed, water and play with every birdie and when she arrived by my parents cage, she noticed the paper roll she had put there the night before for my parents to chew had a very funny looking little leg sticking out. She almost panicked, but was brave enough to get her hands inside our cage to retrieve the tube. For as sweet and loveable as I am, my parents are fierce and vicious. To her surprise a living creature was there, it was ME! I was just trying to get some comfort and trying to hide from curious predators.

My Mommy and Daddy were keeping me well fed. I was so fat and cute that our owner could not get me out of the tube that easily. She was so scared and was trying to figure out how I managed to get out of our nest box and then crawl into this paper tube. Anyway, she took me out and started examining me. She thought my parents might be trying to kill me, but as she was examining me and showing me to her husband as if I was a big prize to show, my parents were desperately calling for me, so I was placed back

in the nest box! (What a mistake!) Another whole day and a whole night went by, and by the next morning, our owner came and decided to check our nest box. Despite my parents being very angry and me just scared to death she peeked into my box. When she opened my next box she screamed and so did I. My 5 siblings were there with me, and sadly all were dead besides me of course! What had happened there is a mystery but my life was just one unfortunate event after another. After my next box was cleaned out I was placed back again, but my parents did not want me back at all. Oh, poor me! But my good owners made sure I was not overly traumatized, by talking to a birdy counselor.

So after another whole day and a whole night, I was finally rescued from my angry parents. They were insisting I should be put out of my home and thrown out with only my few feathers on my back and nothing else. I was lying naked on the cage floor for only a short period but to me it seemed like an eternity. Hungry, almost naked and with no love, who could survive this way?

But my rescuers came immediately. They took me out of there and gave me love and care that day. I thought, “I will be fine now”, but little did I know what an unfortunate event would come after this. As my owners were preparing a nice cozy shelter for me, and preparing a warm meal, they noticed my beak was twisted! Ohhh, poor me! My owner almost panicked again. But they called our Vet and soon we were on our way to visit them. I thought it was just going to be a nice visit, but soon I learned the procedures we have to go through at the Vet’s to make sure we are fine and healthy. Some of them are not pleasant. Not pleasant at all. Especially with me, just a very cute and naked little newborn!

After that visit with our Vet, my life was being put to test. Although I was being very well fed and cared for, and love poured from all corners of my life, the instructions from my Vet were to give me physical therapy on my beak as often as they could. Oh my, poor me! Every time they fed me, or played with me, they twisted my beak back where it was supposed to be, a little more every day. Soon a week went by and I started getting more really itchy feathers all over my body. My owners started putting toys on my little cozy cage, but for the most part I spent my days in the hands, pockets, and on the shoulders of my owners. By the following week little did I know we were going to see my Vet again. I was so happy in my traveling cage, just enjoying everything, going with my owners on new adventures. Then we arrived to see him, I recognized him and did not want anything to do with him at all! To my surprise he just looked me over this time and said my owners were doing such a great job with me.

After all this, I am now 4 months old and I am a very strong, cute, part ‘human’ part Love Bird parrot. I am very well spoken (I make sure my voice is well heard), and keep up with my human flock members throughout the day.
