My Best Friend Pear
Since Peaches, our 2 year old pied lovebird was lonely, my husband surprised me and Peaches with a new baby lovebird. This bird was the only bird left from a clutch, and had been the smallest bird in a bird store full of much larger birds. We named him Pierre. Well, after several months, Pierre laid an egg. Trying to come up with a name that sounded like Pierre was a challenge and we finally ended up with Pear (the mate to Peaches).
Later that year, we lost Peaches in a household accident. That day I learned Pear was an extra-special bird. While I waited at home for my husband to come home, I was crying non-stop. Pear just sat quietly on my shoulder as if to say that she would always be there for me.

I now have had Pear three, years. She is momma's girl. She comes and finds me no matter where in the house I am. She will come down the stairs and come up onto the chair where I sit. She will come into the bedroom and climb up on the bed to be near me. She loves to come into the bathroom and look at herself in the mirror with me while I apply my makeup. But the most endearing quality is that she can always read my mood. On days when I don't feel well, she will just come sit quietly on my shoulder. I often wake up from a nap and find she has come and fallen asleep on me. This has been a hard summer for me and Pear always comes up and checks to see if I am crying. If I am, she will quietly kiss my tears away. Some days when I am blue, she will just come up and cover my face with her little kisses.

Pear can be very stubborn at times but will always let you know what she wants. She will stomp her feet and shake her head "no" if she doesn't want to do something. She says "Thank you" back when I thank her for something. She makes kisses and says "night night" when I cover each evening. Although she doesn't "speak", her "night night" and Kisses are unmistakable. She has the knack of making her chirps and squawks with enough emotion to convey her feelings VERY well.
Pear also knows how to make you smile. At times she will get in my pocket and just peek out as if to say Peek-a-Boo. She loves to crawl under my blanket with the fringed edges and peek out making it look like she has a wig on. She quietly sneaks up on my dog and preens him until he catches on and he runs off. She always makes me laugh and impressess others with her wit and charm. She is the ring-leader of our flight of lovebirds and she is truly my best friend.
