This is the story of our precious little Rainbow. He came to me late one evening dropped off by the guy I was dating at the time. It all started when he called me and asked me if I wanted another bird. Without hesitation I said yes. It turned out that his Aunt and Uncle owned a Peach-Faced Lovebird and they had to keep him in his cage outside because their granddaughter was afraid of the bird. I didn't care what the reason I just wanted the bird. When he came to drop the bird off I opened the car door and there was an empty cage. I panicked! I thought the bird had somehow gotten out. I looked all the over the cage and then there, at the very top of the cage grasping the top of his swing was the most beautiful little bird I had ever laid eyes on. I could tell he was scared and didn't know where he was. I quickly picked up the cage and brought him inside the house. I took the cage up to his new home in my bedroom. I proceeded to open the cage door and after a little coaxing this frightened yet friendly little feathered friend emerged from the cage. I cupped my hands to hold him and he snuggled down and went to sleep in my hands. I could hardly believe it. I knew from that moment that this little guy was special.
That night before I went to bed I had Rainbow out of his cage. As he scampered around the bed he found a blanket I had on the bed that bunched up and he got right in and went to sleep. He slept there until about 3 a.m. and then I returned him back to his cage for the rest of the night.
As the days went by I quickly realized he was also an escape artist. I had a skirt around his cage to catch any seeds he threw around and one day I made the mistake of leaving one of the seed cup doors open and all of a sudden I noticed a little lump scurrying around inside the skirt. I pulled the skirt away from the cage and found the little culprit. It was the cutest thing ever.
