Yoshi - 7th Place

Congratulations to Julie Brown and her bird Yoshi.

I never knew lovebirds were such characters.  Yoshi is the name of
my orange-faced lovebird,  I've had him since he was 4 months old.  He is 18
months old now. He is  such a silly bird. As soon as I give him a new toy he

bites the bells off  by the end of the day.  Then he piles them into his
water dish along with all his other small toys. Yoshi figured out a trick to
getting out of his cage.  He dunks himself into his cold drinking water, he
gets himself soaking wet and cold.  Then I would have to take him out of his
cage and blow dry him.  This became a habit for him, it's his easy way out,
and he loves the attention.

I  take naps almost everyday,  Yoshi gets tired about the same time
I do. He grinds his beak and puffs up when he's sleepy.  Yoshi's  favorite thing
to do is to take naps with me, we nap together in my bed. He nestles himself
underneath my hair, and really sleeps.  When he wakes up before I do, he
climbs up onto the top of my head and chirps to wake me.  On days I do not
take a nap Yoshi snuggles against his 3 sided mirror.  After I take a shower
Yoshi licks off  the water  from my hair.  The first time he discovered the
bathroom mirror he spent about a half an hour watching himself fly  back and
forth across the room. Finally, when he was tired of flying he sat on the
towel rack and kissed the mirror.

Yoshi  tries to eat whatever food I am eating, especially cheerios,
and  he sneaks a sip out of my water glass when he is thirsty.   Yoshi spends a lot
of time out of his cage, and gets really familiar with the  house.  His
favorite spot is on top of the warm lamp hanging  above the kitchen table.
He also plays and does tricks  in the fruit baskets hanging in the corner of
the kitchen, like it's a jungle gym.  Yoshi loves head and neck massages.
When he wants one he will rub his face against my  fingers until I give him
one, and then he closes his eyes.
He is happy  most all of the time.  The only time he lashes out with
anger is when anyone pays too much attention to me.  He gets extremely jealous,
when he is in his cage, he lets out high pitched, short, annoying chirps.
If he is free, he dive bombs anyone touching  me, and tries to bite them.
He wants to be on my shoulder at all times.  When I stick my finger in his
cage he stands on it  right away and does flips around my finger.  When I
take him out of his cage the first thing he will do is go in my shirt, peak
his head out, and watch what I'm doing.  It doesn't take long for him to
start doing the same thing I'm doing.  If I'm eating, he jumps onto my
plate.  If I'm writing, he starts playing with the pen.   If I'm on the
computer, he tries to bite off the keys.  When I'm washing my hands, Yoshi
quickly runs down my arm and takes a few sips of water out of the faucet,
and sometimes jumps in.
Yoshi  is very fun to play with.  He is constantly trying to get my
attention.  He keeps everyone lively, you never know what he will discover
next.
