From the moment that I first saw the picture of Danny sent by my breeder I knew that he was destined to be mine. He is a normal green masked lovebird and apart from his colour there is nothing 'normal' about him or his behaviour. He was hatched on my birthday this year in March and I collected him in May. When he was put into the travel cage he paced up and down not wanting to miss anything that was going on. As I drove home I could hear from the covered cage the sound of millet being eaten and then beak grinding for the rest of the hour's journey. He was to be the potential mate for Sparkle my Slate Masked Lovebird who had lost her mate whilst in quarantine in a shop. After a suitable time they were introduced and he promptly moved first into her cage then into her cozy and finally into her heart. He is such an active bird and is constantly playing with any toys that I put in the cage or swinging on the swings that he loves. He shows no fear and compared to my other birds he is so brave in the face of any monsters (me or new foods or toys). There is never any question about whether he is coming out of the cage. As soon as I open the door for cleaning or food changes - whoosh he flies over my head and out to inspect the other cages in the room. When all 6 of my birds are out together he is the ring leader and encourages them all to get into as much mischief as possible. Sparkle was very aggressive and screamed a lot when she came to me and she is much larger than Danny but he hasn't let that stop him. He played the fool and did acrobatics to get her attention and soon she responded by letting him feed and preen her. They haven't produced any offspring yet as he is still a little young but I'm sure it won't be too long as they are both shredding anything in sight. I am sure that he will make a fine 'daddy' when the time comes and will be great at teaching them to fly and play. He really is a special birdie. Although tiny he is full of character. You just have to love him.
