I grew up with my brother-with-feathers, Jade. He was rescued from a
terrible situation in a pet store. When I found him at age 9, he was nothing
but bones and feathers and very scared of people. To this day, he cannot fly
because of a severely broken wing that was never cared for in the store.
However, he doesn't realize that he can't fly, and instead gets everywhere
by climbing, even up the stairs.

Jade loves people even though he's not comfortable with cuddling. He
especially loves food, and loves it even more if it's stolen when we leave
the room. He also likes to chew books up and disobey anything we ask him to
do. He's the most belligerent, stubborn, and adorable parrot I've ever met.
He loves to give kisses and will never bite without lots of warning. He even
stays quiet when we're taking naps or reading! Despite his attitude, he's
considerate when he knows we want him to be. He's almost 11 years old now,
and I hope he has another 11 in him. Jade is truly a good friend and a part
of our family.
