QUESTION

What type of food should I give my love birds when they are breeding?

The parents should be given some type of soft food for them to eat in addition to their daily seed or pellets as they will need to regurgitate this food to feed their young. There are many commercial egg foods/nesting foods available that are high in nutrition that I use myself such as Petamine. These products are also good to give them right before they lay eggs and during as to build up their bodies. Be sure to also give your birds cuttle bone as this is a good source of calcium and well help in the egg formation process. In addition to commercial nesting food, I also give my birds mixed vegetables as well as a hard boiled egg mashed up with the shell. They seem to love this. Some people also give small pieces of bread.
