QUESTION

Do I need to disinfect my love bird's cage, perches, and toys? How do I disinfect the many different materials the cage contains?

REPLY - By Kathy Greaser

Disinfecting everything in the cage is important when you're switching cages between birds, new or old, and after your bird has been sick. I disinfect my cages at
least once a month. I disinfect everything with either one part bleach into ten parts water or Dene-a-Gene by Oxyfresh (mixed according to directions). I only use the Dene-a-Gene when I'm also doing the breeders because it has to be used up in a limited time. Simply replace all the wood, if it is from the cage of a bird that was sick, dead or if disease is suspected or can not be ruled out.
