QUESTION

How do I find a reputable breeder?

REPLY - By Kathy Greaser

Check with your local bird club. Contact the society for the species you are looking for.
Contact an avian vet in your area. Get references from other bird owners or breeders. Now
the operative word here is "reputable". This word is misleading. What you would consider
reputable and what someone else would are two different things. Ask the breeder as many
questions as you can about her or his methods. Insist on complete answers. Don't accept
"That's not important". If you agree with everything the breeder does then the aviary is
reputable. The more informed you are the better able you will be to agree or disagree. To me
a reputable breeder is one who thinks of nothing but the welfare of the birds and wants to
make sure that the bird will continue to receive the quality care and love it's used to.
