QUESTION

How do I know when my love bird issick? How do I know if my love birdis sick
enough to go to the vet?

SIGNS OF ILLNESS: Break in the bird's routine, Changed or no vocalization, Change in the droppings (consistency and frequency), Weight Loss, Decreased preening and feather
maintenance, Reduced appetite or not eating at all, Inactivity, Droopy
wings, Discharge from eyes, Change in clarity or color of the eyes, Closing of the eyes,
Swelling around the eyes, Discharge from the nostrils, Obstructed nostrils, Soiling feathers on
head or around nostrils, Sneezing, Inability to manipulate food within the mouth,
Fluffed-up feathers, Equilibrium problems (very serious), Inability to perch (bird on cage
bottom).

These signs are listed in the order that I look for. As soon as I see weight loss, and the bird
is weighed every day once I'm suspicious, I make an appointment. You begin to know your
birds the way you know your children. You can just tell when things aren't right.
