Judge's Comments:
This is the 2nd year for the lovebird division at this show and they had a great turn out of exhibitors and birds. Wendy Edwards was once again in charge of putting the lovebird division together and she did a good job and it showed in the number of entries.
I did not get the judges book that has the number of entries in each class and section, so I don't have those counts for you. Sorry. But if my memory serves me right, we had one black-cheeked and that was our only rare. It was a nice bird, but it would not come off the bottom of the show box so that I could get a good look at it.
The Fischer's section was one of the bigger sections that day with most of them being in the nominate class. And that is where the show winning bird came from. It was a really nice nominate Fischer's with absolutely no yellow between the orange bib and green body and it showed good deportment too.
Most of the birds had conditioning problems but that is to be expected since this show is held in May and a lot of the birds were going through or just coming out of molts. I saw a lot of pinfeathers. But the birds that made the top bench looked good and their owners did a job of grooming them for the show.
I was surprised to see so many northerners at the show. We had exhibi tors from Michigan, Massachusetts, New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Virginia, and Indiana. I want to thank them all for making the trip south with their birds.
I would also like to thank the Raleigh-Durham Caged Bird Society and Wendy Edwards for inviting me to judge their show. I also want to thank my steward, Paul Crow, and my secretaries, Katy Secor, Shawn Currier and Barb Theeke. I know that there were others who helped out too and your help was and is always appreciated. |
