Judge's Comments:
The best bird in the show, selected for the Don Powers Award, was our Love Bird! The other judges agreed with my selection.
Texas has had very warm weather for the last month. The Love birds have stayed in remarkably good condition. I saw almost no pin feathers in the 63 entries. Overall the condition was quite good.
We had 63 entries from 5 exhibitors. Four of the exhibitors placed in the top 11 and the fifth won Best Novice so all exhibitors received recognition of excellence. The largest section was blue Peachfaced with 13, and we had entries in all sections except for Masked. The top half or so of the top 11 seemed comfortable in the show cages and the lower half were either hyperactive or lethargic. Some of those might have placed higher with better show cage training.
The top bird was a beautiful and very "showy" Orange Faced Heavy Pied (Recessive from the spots on the rump). While this bird was not extremely large it was in excellent condition and fit all the proportions just right. It had a great stance on the perch. All this meant that this bird was number one on that day and the other judges agreed as I mentioned above. Second was a Whitefaced Violet and 3rd was a great Orangefaced Opaline.
My thanks to the show committee for inviting me and to the Division Secretary Amber Hussain and to the Steward Ron Brewer. And, by the way, Amber is Ron's granddaughter and she is interested in birds as well. |
